I have been taking a Solidworks class, now dropped in order to focus on caring for my wife.
To help keep myself occupied on things that focus my brain away from her illness, I am designing things. One of the things I am sketching up is a suppressor design. I would like some links, some ideas, some help learning how to design one that will be efficient.
I already know, before I / if I actually build one, I have to first do the ATF paperwork, wait for permission, then buy parts and start building.
I understand that each design and each sample needs its own paperwork.
I doubt I will actually make one, seeing as I also had do drop out of my machining class, but I would like the time sink and learning opportunity of designing an effective suppressor. My real desire is for centerfire rifle, but I am very willing to work my way up.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Goggle is your friend here. Suppressors are generally simple devices, notwithstanding that they're characterized by the ATF as something evil. The simple fact is that any home machinist cam make one.

yup. It's a muffler. Any garage shop that can make a car muffler can make a suppressor.PawPaw wrote:Goggle is your friend here. Suppressors are generally simple devices, notwithstanding that they're characterized by the ATF as something evil. The simple fact is that any home machinist cam make one.

I've always wanted to get the Silencer History and Performance set, I find it fascinating to see how the technological improvements occur. Anyway, several of the books on there are probably a good start for what you're looking for.

I've read they used to have barrels of them in hardware stores for about $5, so they should be relatively easy. Keep us posted.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

I believe the consesus on silencer talk is k-baffles for pistol pressures and 60 degree cones for rifles as best performance for form one builds. Theyre generally asses there so take it with a grain of salt.
