Daniel Defense DDM4

Post by Darrell »

What do the forum experts think of the Daniel Defense DDM4, V1? I've been considering an upper tier AR, and this gun is among the candidates. I was running errands this morning, and happened to note a new gun shop in the area. I stopped in for a quick look, and noted they have the gun on the wall, going for $1,450 or so. What say you? It seemed like a very nice carbine.

There are a few V1s on gunbroker for ~$1200.

I have a DD barrel on my AR. The are a good rifles but a bit speedy compared to building your own, especially if you intend to change out the furniture or sights.

As for the furniture--the one here in town, and some I see on Gunbroker, have Magpul MOE stocks on them. The newer ones have DD's new house stock on them, not sure if I care for the looks or not.

I think I'd rather buy a reputable complete AR, rather than do a frankengun. Looking at DD's stuff, I think I'd prefer the V5 or V7, not a fan of fixed sights. I've been considering a Palmetto build, though, getting an upper and lower, probably. Their website is pretty picked over at the moment.

I wound up pulling the trigger, so to speak, on a DDM4V7 via GunBroker last night, did save a few hundred. Still can't quite get my head around the DD furniture--the stock looks like a Klingon battle axe. Oh well, we'll see how it looks in person.

As long as it scares Bloomberg, I say it looks good!

Payment and FFL transfer paperwork have cleared, but it hasn't shipped yet. I'm off this week, and was hoping to have it in my sweaty little hands, but at the rate things are going, I suspect I won't see it until some time next week.

I've been looking at various folding BUIS, and thinking of what kind of optic to put on it. I have an Aimpoint Pro that would work, but have been considering something with a little magnification that won't overwhelm the gun. Need a sling, too. Hopefully I'll resist the temptation to rice it out overmuch (one reason I didn't get the V5 with full rails). ;)

Well, the carbine finally showed up today! I picked it up after work--the background check cleared in just a couple of minutes. Looks good, still can't quite get my head around the stock... LOL I managed to extend it, just haven't figured out how to collapse it again. I'll try to get some pics up when and if the rain ever quits...

I'm leaning toward the Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 optic. I checked out a bunch of the popular choices a few weeks ago, I thought the Leupold was the clear winner. Can't use BUIS with it, though. I'll probably just go with the Aimpoint PRO for the time being. I might slap a conventional riflescope on it just to see how accurate it really is.

If your worried about it put the scope on a QD mount if you can. That way you can just dump the scope real fast if you have to.
