Organization claims it is 'saving lives 1 bullet at a time'

Legislation to trace ammunition is pending in several states, and many gun owners are concerned that it is just another attempt by anti-gun groups to violate citizens' Second Amendment rights.

An organization known as Ammunition Accountability is pushing to make coding technology mandatory across the nation. Its website claims it is a group of "gun crime victims, industry representatives, law enforcement, public officials, public policy experts, and more" who are "saving lives one bullet at a time."

If states pass the legislation, manufacturers will be required to laser etch a serial number into the back of each bullet and the inside of cartridge casings, a patented process developed by Seattle, Wash., resident Russ Ford and his business partners, Steve Mace and John Knickerbocker.

Haha, economics cannot be denied. Remember how Adam Smith said that undertakings always try to create a monopoly by using government regulation? My first reaction to the post was: "hmm, I'll bet that lobby group is a front for whoever sells the marking technology". And, hey presto, we have confirmation. Talk about being hamfisted...

First they will make selling reloading components in the state illegal. Then they will go after out of state vendors with enough gusto to make them stop selling to your state. Then they will ban the possession of ammunition components in your state (and use a broad sense of ammunition, ie, chunks of lead or brass with no clear purpose). Then they will register all gun owners. Then they will probably create some government agency, call it the State Technical Ammunition Safety Inspection Office that will have very broad, unconstitutional but "reasonable" powers to randomly inspect known gun-owners to make sure that everything in order is.
This will get 98% or so of people to comply outright. The remaining two percent will be dealt with slowly, but surely, by simply calling in a SWAT team on anyone who is suspected of having unregistered ammo, and telling them that there is a suspected child-raping terrorist in there, and that it's better to be a little trigger happy than risk their own life.
