It looked lost and lonely and follow me home - S&W 1917

No magic crate. Magic Rock pile.

Technically it's a Model 1937 since it is one of the Brazilian Contract guns. That's ok. The rear sight on the 1937's is actually a bit better than on the US contract guns.

Jeff (AJI sales in Apache Junction) had it priced at $399. Gave it to me for $400 cash out the door and threw in a box of 100 pieces of brand new Starline .45 Autorim brass as well as a half dozen full moons and some 1/3d moons.

It went into the case last night, and I just happened to stop by...

Sweet! I really like those rawboned old revolvers. And good ones are getting a mite scarce on the ground.

Congrats, and well wear!

Nice score.

I have wanted one of those for a very long time. Congratulations on the find!

My step-grandfather, the family's First [strike]Jarhead[/strike] Marine, carried one in the Pacific in WW II. Apparently, he got it "off the books" and it followed him from Guadalcanal to Okinawa. He kept it, somehow, after he got out in 1946.

He used to scrounge half-moon clips like they were silver ingots.

Thanks, that brought back some happy memories!

So I'm looking at the revolver, and Jeff (the owner of the shop) looks over and says: "You're going to buy that."

Statement, not a question.

Then he says, "You're going to pay with paper money right?" I say well sure, assuming I have that much on me.

He then says, "ok that price out the door and I have a bonus for you." Doesn't say what the bonus is, just disappears into his office.

Ended up borrowing $200 from the misses till we got home and I could pay her back out of my "fun stuff" fund.

I'm halfway through filling out the 4473 before he places my "bonus" on the counter beside me.

The bonus:
100 pieces of Brand New Starline .45 AR brass
1/2 dozen full moons
dozen 1/3rd moon clips.
:D

And this being AZ I walk out carrying the gun in my hands. (I don't think Jeff even has bags in the store)

Don't you hate it when they know you that well? Sorta takes some of the fun out of it.

As Firstshirt said, those rawboned old revolvers are handsome. Do tell how it shoots.
And my first reaction was "rear sight?"
And as Denis says, "Wear Well"
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

The rear notch may not be much, but it's still better than some of the old Colt notches. ;)

Hey, that's my line!

Lucky you, NVGDude. Happy shooting and, indeed, well wear! The magic rockpile is a nice touch...
