Fantasy gunshop

Post by Denis »

I was at the IWA last week (the European equivalent of the SHOT show). Overwhelming, in a nice way.

Anyhow, the vast array of goods on show got me wondering, what should a good neighbourhood gunshop keep in stock, when the range of gunny accessories available on the market is so vast?

Take firearms, ammunition and reloading components for granted. Now, what else?

Fire away!

A good assortment of targets. A variety of holsters, especially for common sellers like glocks, 1911's and various ruger/S&W revos...AND BELTS for said holsters... Hoppes #9. Some pocket knives. Magazines/speed-loaders for the common guns. Cases.

Most of my favorite "gun shops" are sporting goods stores....they also had fishing stuff and hunting stuff and traps/trapping supplies.....it's nice to have a one-stop shop on occasion.

The fantasy shop has a range on site, for reasonable prices. I know of two shops in the area I grew up that both have ranges. It's nice, but they both absolutely rape your wallet, to the point where it's not usually worth it to shoot.

See, what I would stock, if I end up absurdly wealthy and could keep Gura on hand to defend me, in my 5th ave gunshop, called "Apoplectic Commies."

A selection of fine custom guns, to demonstrate what can be ordered, options available, etc.

A tailor, to take measurements for custom tweeds/safari clothes/other hunting clothes

Someone to take measurements for custom hunting boots.

A place to smoke cigars.

By appointment only, and only to vetted people.

A range

Tac-man targets
And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, & our sacred Honor

A gentleman unarmed is undressed.

....I'd buy my own strip-mall, name it the BATFE, and put in stores for high end liquor/craft beer, a fine cigar shop, a well stocked gun shop, and a fireworks dispensary.

A large flat screen with all the relevant pro and anti gun bills listed, and the positions of the local gun rights group on those bills shown, located prominently in the Store. Beneath it, a table for registering new voters and a terminal to submit emails to relevant local government Reps and Senators.

Plus listings of how those Reps and Senators vote on gun issues.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

+100.

It's time that all across this nation we start engaging the Customers of these stores, so that on every visit they understand not just that there are others who will take away their rights, but that there's something immediate and tangible they can do about it.

I suspect gun shops have a lot in common with surf shops. The guns or boards are the raison d'etre for the shop, are big on the top line and small at the bottomline. Sales shirts, shoes, videos, ancillary stuff and small impulse buys near the register are what make (or break) the bottom line.

One of those overhead slime dumpers like Nickelodeon uses on the kid shows, set to activate whenever someone starts making comments like "Silencers are illegal!" or "You can't legally own a sawed off shotgun!"
