Are Gun Sales Plunging?

Post by skb12172 »

CNN says so. Of course, a few lines into the article and it isn't quite that they're plunging…
Sales of guns and ammo are losing steam after a frenzied run-up sparked by fears of greater restrictions in the wake of the Newtown shooting and other massacres.
Background checks by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, considered to be the most accurate means of tracking gun sales, plunged by a third in January compared to the year before. There were about 1.66 million background checks last month, and nearly 2.5 million in January the year before.

I'd say that things are coming down from an artificial high to a more normal level. The "normal" might be different from before the last mass incident, but we're not there yet.
Buy ammunition and magazines.

You'll shoot your eye out!

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

After scaling the Everest of Sandy Hook, conjoined with the re-election of the most openly dictatorial communist to the presidency vowing to "rethink gun control", sales have plateaued after most factories have run up a two to three year backorders on current inventory.

In other words, at some point, everyone who wants them owning 26 or 206 guns is seen as "enough", and they start buying other things.

NICS checks are still running at 2x-3x what they were at any point since the Clinton presidency, when they started. You could look it up.

January 1999: 591,355
January 2007: 894,608
January 2014:1,660,355

Lowest any time since Hopey Dopey was elected: > 966,000/month
Average since Hopey Dopey was elected: 1,433,291/month
Over 90,000,000 NICS checks since November 2008.

Best Gun Salesman Of All Time: Barack Hussein Obama

The NRA should so honor him with a giant poster at every annual convention.
He's personally done more to put guns in people's hands than Kalashnikov, Garand, John Moses Browning, and the Mexican Revolution, combined.

Communist News Netwerps really needs to employ better propagandists if this is the best they can do.
It isn't just that their eyes are brown, but it's running down their pantlegs too.

Yeah, let's review for a minute. Those are January's numbers, right?

Folks are still recovering from Christmas.
The economy is in the doldrums.
Income taxes are coming due.
We've just gotten over a huge buying spree.

That having been said, my immediate family bought three last week. I picked up a nice, clean Model 60, my son bought a carbine, and my daughter-in-law scored a Springfield XD.

Sales aren't plunging, they're just returning to rational levels. They're still way ahead of any numers 20 years ago (and all those guns are still out there, hopefully being used regularly).

They're lower year-on-year because, and ONLY because, last January was at the peak of the panic.

Been starting to ponder the option for BAG day this year.

Me, too. I found a used Ruger M-77 left-handed .30-06 at a local House of Pawn. Haven't bought it yet, but I'm thinking about it.

That was one month after Newtown, and by panic, I'm sure you mean the blatherings of the frothing mouthed leftists like my SIL and brother, who posted on face book how the "little gun" (any nine millimeter like the ones every cop carries) "couldn't protect you," which was why every cop carries one.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

Including direct delivery to Mexican gangs. Oh, no. Sorry, that was Holder... BHO had no part of that. No, no siree.
