Probably not, so long as it demonstrably improves safety, rather than simply leverages technology in support of winning.
The only reason NASCAR, Indy, and F1 don't mandate drivers wearing blindfolds now is the unfortunate spectacle of cars flying into the stands and killing spectators, and subsequent lawsuits, otherwise they'd have gone for that decades hence just to sell more advertising and tickets.

Yes, people can (and some invariably will) misuse anything. Doesn't mean the thing itself is bad (hint), or that it should be banned (hint, hint), especially at the expense of those who use the thing properly (BIG FUCKING HINT) and themselves do nothing wrong.
Do you see the parallel I'm drawing here?

I never said they should be banned. I expressed my (I believe reasonable) concerns over how such technology might be implemented badly (with the example of how dashboards can be implemented badly and cause distraction). If they stick with supplying only necessary information in a subtle manner, fine. I don't think I'd want a HUD, but knock yourself out. If someone installs an app that allows them to play movies on the windshield I only hope that person advertises what roads they'll be on so I can stay off of them.Greg wrote:I was being subtle.308Mike wrote:As they have ANY law with a specific purpose for something else - they WILL twist it towards their means (see RICO)!!Greg wrote: Certainly, people can find a way to misuse anything.

We've discussed before how cars apparently aren't designed by people who have to work on them. I've often thought they're not designed by people who actually DRIVE.

Solution in search of a problem. Riding requires complete focus and distractions can become deadly very quickly. This is a distraction, much like listening to music while riding. YMMV.

Hey there is a real problem this can address, which is that you sometimes need to look away from the road to get information from your instrument panel (kind of the reason HUDs were invented). With a proper HUD you never need to look away from the road.free_me wrote:Solution in search of a problem. Sure it can be done wrong and become a distraction, people can misuse anything, I think there was already some discussion along those lines.
