Maybe instead of a fabric suit, they should use more rigid materials. Then it will be easier to build in the heat protection, and less concern from buffetting. While they are at it, the joints could be power-assisted to relieve the wearer from the effort of moving around, and maybe even amplify his muscle force a bit. You could have hard points for retro rockets and weapons. You could even use them as a means for inserting troops from orbit, maybe even on other planets. :ugeek:

If that's what it takes to break the .gov monopoly on space flight and related research, great!

And even if you do believe it's a total waste of time, better that a private company spends it's money than "waste" tax payer money on it. Nobody's forcing you to watch (or pay for) it.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

I was thinking more along the lines of Starship Troopers, but whatever.

I'm just bitter and twisted about the manned spaceflight situation. I should be living on the moon ( at least ) by now, but we are still farting about in LEO.

You're not the only one thinking that... but of course, you knew that.

Ayup. Mach 1.24, though I'm not sure at what altitude.
How does that work? Since the speed of sound is different depending on air density?

I grew up 35mi from KSC, you dont have to tell me anything about being bitter about manned spaceflight... To me, the ultimate stab in the eye was giving a shuttle to NYC instead of Huntsville.
