I rode nearly 50 years. Had to give it up due to illness. No balance.

Started out on English, then went Harley. Went down a few times. Never hit in traffic (talking about Chicago).

Mostly for the same reasons Bob identified above. That and as most of us get older, we tend to get weaker and bikes start to FEEL LIKE they're getting heavier. Besides, riding takes more skill to ride, and more split attention ability than driving a car, which is why it's easier to secure DUI convictions below .08 BAC for motorcycle riders and boat drivers than motor vehicles.

I though the comsumption of beer was a prerequisite to maritime movement 8-)

That's the funny thing. I don't know about other states, but here in NJ it is legal for boat passengers to drink but doing so in a car is an "open container" ticket :?

Here in Texas we had too many on the lakes colliding with each other, powering through swimming areas, doing head on's with various objects in the water so over the years the water police have gotten nasty about drinking and boating.
As for motorcycle riding, yes it is dangerous but how dangerous depends on how your ride and what you wear when you ride. With paranoia, good safety gear, the reactions of youth, and experience it is almost as safe as Afghanistan.
It is hell when you can't pick up a Ninja 250 any more that you dropped because you didn't get your feet down quickly enough when you went of balance at a slow speed with a load of groceries. I miss being able to putter along a country lane in the cool of the evening with my face shield open. When I win the lottery I'm getting one of those CanAm three wheel Spyders, the one with two wheels in the front. :lol:
