I was thinking of getting him a revolver as a gift, but he is not too keen on firearms. (massachusetts resident) Maybe a custom military style knife in a nice case.
I am open for suggestions.

Re: Want to buy an old friend a meaningful gift
Okay, this is kinda' basic: WHAT DOES HE LIKE, and what might he desire which would REALLY surprise him?
Does he like blades and/or bladed weapons? Does he like to cook? If so, does he prefer to cook on the stove or the in the oven (or maybe the BBQ grill)? Is he a clothes hound? Is he an outdoors kinda' guy or a city fella'? Does he like to work out, or sit on the couch and watch TV?
We need a little more information to help.

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I edited my first post and added some stuff, so please take another look at my post above.Yogimus wrote:He admires my military lifestyle and I want to give him something that is inclusive.
Does military lifestyle mean spartan lifestyle or one which is easy to pickup and move at a moment's notice? If possessions aren't his bag, then perhaps he prefers going to movies or other escapist activities?

Well, the thing is... I don't want to get him something "he wants". I want something that represents me. This aint a birthday present. I also don't want to get him a "Token" thing like a challenge coin. Would some kind of blade do, something which he can use for years and each time he uses it and remember the knife's origin, remember you?
EDIT:
Any kind of knife you get for him will depend on how the knife is meant to be used. If he likes to cook, that knife will be a LOT different than if he just wants to kill things.
Specifics ARE important in your selection.

Even if it was a KITCHEN knife (which could also be used for other scenarios), would it STILL wind up being in a box?Yogimus wrote:Would most likely end up in a bottom of a box ^.^ being found every 2 years or so308Mike wrote:Would some kind of blade do, something which he can use for years and each time he uses it and remember the knife's origin, remember you?
