Number 1: is collectors - and there's quite a few of them.
Number 2: is folks wanting to buy a PARTICULAR badge to fulfill some kind of scheme they have in mind, and having a certain location's badge certainly helps if they get stopped/questioned - and they hope the person stopping them doesn't know too much about the department/person they plan on impersonating, nor their chain of command.

When someone out here flashes a badge during a traffic stop, most times they'll ask specific legal questions or something similar to ensure the person they're talking to is actually a fellow cop WITHOUT contacting their department. I suspect it's similar elsewhere in the US when one cop stops another to verify his LEO status. Most of the time they are verifying it to ensure the person they stopped isn't going to go sideways on them, rather than in the interest of giving them a break on the violation they committed. There are MANY stolen badges out there, so for the most part, ID cards are the only things which work - badges not so much other than to get the officer to CONSIDER he MIGHT be dealing with a fellow LEO.

YMMV
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Mike, if you look closely at the picture, those are all "Concealed Weapons Permit" badges. Not LE badges.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

YUP. Sorry on my unreduced picture that was plainly obvious. The for web sizing muddied that up a bit.

$89 for a CCW badge and leather flap ???? I guess you can put a price on stupid/impersonating an officer.

All the cops I know get pissed as hell at CCW badges. It causes them to look for a reason to mess with the holder.

That's just....such a bad idea. I can't fathom why someone would think it's smart. If for whatever reason one was to start flashing that around to deter criminal activity, first of all one of your hands is tied up. Second, if threatening individuals are hardened criminals, they're probably going to think you're about to arrest them and become violent regardless. Third, it just smacks of imitating a LEO, so if you do unfortunately need to discharge your firearm and have to deal with an unfriendly DA, it may just be another charge throw against you. I just don't get it.

Any particular reason you had to exhume that dead horse in order to smack it around a little bit?

Dead horses are easy targets...and I saw these at a gun show I went to recently. Not to mention people were seriously considering making the purchase. :o :o :o

If cops want to play soldier why wouldn't the "civilians*" they overlord get to play cop?
