I recently read Dead Six and Monster Hunter Alpha. Enjoyed both. I do have to confess, the dual narration in Dead Six took me aback, but as I went through the book I really liked hearing both points of view.

Currently reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Buy ammunition and magazines.

Finished micro, Michael Crichton's last book, finished by Richard Preston. Preston was a good choice as he has a similar style. The tale is mildly entertaining despite the wooden characters. It kind of screamed screenplay at me as I was reading. The gist of the story is a group of grad students from Boston go to Hawaii for job interviews with a small high technology company. They wind up getting shrunk down to not quite invisible size (Ants are waist high), and released into the wild far from the company facility that contains their only hope of regaining normal size. The company CEO/President is an evil SOB, portrayed very unrealistically.

It was OK, but you may find it a waste of time.

I'm currently into a trade paperback called The Blond Bombshell, by Tom Holt. Holt is a Englishman and a kind of a minor league version of Terry Pratchett, and writes in a kind of heavy handed slapstick style. Most of the action takes place in sunny Novosibirsk, Siberia.

It has it's moments, and I'm enjoying it more than the Crichton/Preston book.

YMMV.

Heh, I know people in Novosibirsk, Siberia - or, at least, something that sounds like that - Novorisisk, is what I thought they said.

Third largest city in Russia, and the largest in Siberia. In the book they have two octopus vendors. 8-)

Holt is a hoot!

I'm just finishing his Ye Gods! With Greek, Roman, Norse, Babylonian etc. all getting involved which is a recurring theme in his books...He certainly knows his mythology.

I've also read the following as they're residing on the shelf over the computer:
Flying Dutch,
Faust Amongst Equals,
Open Sesame,
My Hero,
Odds & Gods and
Paint Your Dragon
.

I believe he has some ten or twelve other books out there as well,..The daughters got me involved with his writing

Now on Murray N. Rothbard's "Man, Economy, and State."

Now I have a specific unit of measure for my happiness, just because he said one couldn't exist. So, even if I don't become an economist, I've still gained something.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Finished REAMDE, it took a while. It stayed good all the way through.

Just got finished reading,.......this thread. Took a long time, too.

This week, I've obtained and read volumes IX, X, XI, and XII of the Man-Kzin Wars series; Safer to eat white arsenic than human meat. I love the way Peace Corben, the slaphappy human Protector and brightest organic lifeform in the Galaxy, makes hay with the history of Known Space. She engineered Harvey Mossbauer's attack on the harem of the Patriarch of Kzin that forced the kzinti to consider humans Legal Entities, and forced a later Patriarch to outlaw slavery throughout the Patriarchy.

And, volume VI of the Bolo series; Bolo: Cold Steel.

I now have all of the published books of both series and am awaiting the next volume.

Recently reread Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising and The Dragon And The Bear, stories from two different timelines,...

All right, I couldn't remember offhand which way around the title went. I enjoyed all the flabbling around in the book and I like it when the good guys win. Sue me.
