TV Show About Eco-Piracy

Post by MarkD »

My wife and I went to the movies yestereday, and one of the commercials before the movie (don't get me started on THAT) was for a TV Show on Animal Planet about this group of eco-nuts that goes out in a ship trying to stop Japanese whalers. They fly a Jolly Roger (I think that's the name of the skull-and-crossed-bones flag), they get in front of the whaling ship, throw smoke bombs onto the deck of the whaler, and generally act like pirates. They then act with shock and horror when the whalers SHOOT at them.

If the show were on any other channel I'd suspect a happy ending, with pirates (for that's just what they are) hanging from yard-arms (or better still, lashed to whales like Captain Ahab). Seems to me that interfering with a ship that's conducting legitimate business, especially doing so by throwing stuff with fuses onto the deck, really IS piracy and ought to be punished as such.

Here's the show's web site:

Sea Shepherd is the group with that boat. Why the Japanese Naval SDF doesn't escort the whaling ships, I don't know.

I wouldn't mind volunteering my services for anti-pirate/anti-eco-loon duty.

From episode 2,to be aired on Nov 14.
Captain Paul Watson devises a dangerous plan for two of his crew members to board the vessel and deliver a letter telling them to stop the killing of whales.
The japs decided to keep the two crewmen.

That's a shame, they should have just dropped them overboard. I don't imagine they'd have lasted long in Antarctic waters.

Given the history of the Jolly Roger and what it represents, normal people (us on this here forum) would consider a ship that is flying said flag and approaching our ship on an intercept course as being on the attack, and would take appropriate action. Sea Shepherd is lucky that no one was killed.
Buy ammunition and magazines.

You'll shoot your eye out!

If you fly that flag you deserve to hang from the yardarm for stupid.

i dunno, with a potential super majority in the congress and a potential democratic senator that is to the left of that... it might not be 6 months before all of us are flying the same flag...
