I will be at work tomorrow (I do troubleshooting for backups, storage, clustering and virtual machines for MS)... We have a couple of programs that we use to trace the VSS process and tell us exactly where the failure happens.

After misbehaving for a couple of weeks, backup ran on auto last night, and completed successfully. Go figure.
