Re: Open for business!
The business website is up and running with a list of some of the books in the store. The list is incomplete and full of errors, but the books listed were scanned into a database and published.
The inventory software leaves a bit to be desired, or perhaps the operator needs more training. Some of the ISBN's return multiple choices and the operator is too lazy or lacks the skillset to properly parse the choices and the wrong book is displayed. If the book does not have a barcode for the ISBN it is probably not going to be on the list for a while.
Steep learning curve in progress.

The front page of the website is very simply done. More effort will be expended in due course.

Rumpshot,
Hey, I've been thinking, it seems that all of the libraries out here have an area where they sell their "withdrawn" books for 25-75 cents each. They have the normal library markings, but would that be something you could sell in your shop?
If so I could scrounge the stacks and pick up a hundred or so and pass them to you when you come for Rendezvous.
What say you?

Re: Open for business!
There are actually people who make a living buying library books and selling them on ebay.
They use a scanner with a pda to read the barcodes. Most have zero interest in the books, it's just inventory to them.
Moar about it

Yup, we buy and sell used library books. Often they have new books as well, for the low price. These are usually conducted under "friends of the library" programs. We use a scanner at the store and inventory software, but don't have the fancy pda type.

Rump, Mike --- I will be in San Diego and then up to Flagstaff in April. I will be visiting a good friend who retired as Master Chief of the Pacific some time back,I believe during the '80's and then another friend who served on 3 subs in the Pacific during WW2 from 1942 to 1945 .
Would be more than happy to deliver a load of books--gives me an excuse to visit the store.

Congrats to you and your wife! It's very liberating to have your own business especially one based off of a passion or interrest.
