Surefire G2: No more Maglite for me!

I ordered a Surefire G2 Nitrolon from LA Police Gear the other day. The price, at $39, was competitive, but what really sold me was their offer of 8 free Surefire batteries for free with the order.

I broke open the packaging after it arrived on the big brown truck of happiness, and now I'm spoiled rotten. I've never owned a flashlight other than a AA MiniMag. At $39, what the hell was I waiting for? It's light, ergonomic, and produces an amazing light. Even indirect exposure to the front end caused me to turn and cover my eyes, and I knew what was coming! At four feet from the wall, I get a 6 foot diameter splash around an intense spot about six inches diameter.

I bought the girls each a pink or purple MiniMag last year for Christmas, so they'll get the MiniMags from now on. Me, on the other hand? I'm going to start stocking these Surefires in my cars, my dresser drawers, my work desk,...

* * *
For the purposes of disclosure, I do not have any affiliation with LA Police Gear. My order did NOT arrive with the 8 free Surefire batteries; I called, the rep knew about the problem and said she would ship those batteries out free of charge in the next 24 hours. If that doesn't bother you, I recommend you browse the site's "morale patches." WARNING: NSFW due to language and mild but inappropriate graphics.

Welcome to the dark side. I find the Maxfire lights at $16 are the same brightness but much cheaper. Once you go to LED lights some of them are 240 Lumens and the same size.... I recommend you buy rechargeable batteries and a charger if you buy more than one and use them a lot like I do. Pays for itself the first time they run dry!

+1 on the Brinkmann Maxfires. I have a few. One is riding on an HD shotty.

Target used to have them for CHEAP. Unfortunately, they no longer seem to stock them.

I am a fan of this series of lights from Cabelas.

The Cabelas light uses a high quality Cree LED that casts a more traditional "yellowish" light vs most LED's that cast either a white or blueish light.

I had a Surefire G2 go belly up on me, it will not reliably turn on when I push the button. What kind of warranty do they have?

I have this cheap off-brand 3AAA 9-LED flashlight that I got for 5 dollars at a Hallmark shop.
Nice and bright, only problem is that somewhere inside there's a bad connection so it has to be smacked, or squeezed in the right area, to work.

My favorite is a streamlight microstream. Takes a AAA battery, produces quite a bit of light, and is small enough to clip onto a shirt w.o. causing any problem.

I haven't called them in a few years, but Surefire support was great when I used them last.

I've got Surefires, Streamlights, Mag-lights, Mini-maglights, and various other lights. I always seem to go back to my Surefires.

I am asking for an E2D-L for Christmas, then I'll use my E2D as backup. Two is one and one is none, right?

I've called them a few times, and customer service has always been outstanding. Pretty much you call, they fix, no questions (unrelated to resolving your issue) asked. Usually, they'll just mail you the part you might need to replace.

My G2 nitrolon is awesome. I keep it on the nightstand. it's a handy partner to whichever pistol I happen to have on there.
I have that 120 Lumen lamp in it. Love it. My old college friend refers to it as the "sun in your pocket."
