Belly Band advice

....for a handgun -- not my gut (but Hey! If it helps my profile...). :P

Any words of advice on this subject? I'm carrying around the house and property most the time. This being SoCal (inland) and we don't run the A/C that means trunks or gym shorts 4-5 months a year. Esp evenings during "pool weather." I'm finding that at least half the time I end up having a holstered handgun with me that I stash close by because I don't have a pocket or belt. Most of the time it's my 2" 38 Special in a pocket holster. I'd druther have it on me -- that's what gives rise to thoughts of a belly band.

P3AT.

Otherwise, no - sorry ... No real advice to add.

Personally, I LIKE my little pocket-toys...

What's YOUR vision of a "belly band"? When I'm wearing shorts, I usually just wear a regular 1-1/2" leather belt with holster and magazine pouches on it - drop an oversized t-shirt on it and everything disappears. Especially useful when you'd like to catch said roaming animal which may have killed your pet feline.

SEVERAL hollow points SHOULD do the job just fine.

Oh - AHEM, getting back to your situation - how much do you sweat? That could have a bearing on how much you're willing to expose your gun to body salts and oils - depending on finish. If you have an IWB holster that protects the entire gun and shorts strong enough to hold it securely, that might be the way to go.

Yeah, thinking about times (like now) when I'm just wearing shorts w/ elastic waistband. I was weighng about options like the Kangaroo or like these velcro/elastic bands.

I looked at your links, but those would CERTAINLY make me sweat MUCH more than wearing a simple leather belt with holster (and speed-loaders/magazines) than those massive heat insulating belly-bands. I sweat bad enough as it is when I'm working outside, I don't need anything to make me sweat EVEN MORE.

Really, all I have is a belt with slide-on holster and magazine pouches and it works GREAT. I don't HAVE to feed it through loops and it stays on just fine - but if I wanted to feed it, it would do that too.

Try taking something you ALREADY HAVE and see if you can either use it without the loops, or make some minor modification to make it work and suit your needs (unless you have everything dialed-in, set-screwed, and marked to know just where everything goes - then buy another belt and make some different arrangements).

I'm NOT dissing your choices or desires, just questioning whether you can ALREADY do what you want with what you ALREADY have.

You might be surprised.

Have you considered the Smart Carry?

Yeah. I have. Need to give one a try. In my case, I find Smartcarry more interesting for roadtrips, highway rest stop/truck stop type situations (a big part of my work is driving regularly into OC and LA industrial areas).

Back to my "around the house" scenario: gym shorts and t-shirt or aloha shirt.

A big part of the reason for that attire is that I spend a lot of my home/evening time (hour +) on the floor in various stretches and exercise positions as part my back/postural therapy. Most of those involve hip/pelvis function and put my knees up high with hips in flexion (dang ileas psoas need hammered back into function daily). Those front flexion exercise positions make front abdominal or appendix carry <ahem> a delicate proposition.

Which brings me back to why I started thinking about a belly band or kangaroo chest type carry -- no interference with knees up toward chest.

Sounds like a chest-carry or shoulder-holster would be best. With a shoulder-holster, you could even go open-front on the shirt and still be covered (if you don't have to use a chest strap).

hmmm.... Might have to get a white linen suit and start wearing 2 days of stubble. Yeah, that could work.

You know as I think about it -- sweating off a few with an elastic bellyband might be a feature, not a bug.
