The Gun Counter

I have been ruminating on the evolution of my BOB's Bug's, and Grab and Go kits. I will post pics later, but to start I want to muse a bit.

Never being satisfied every three months or so I start messing with them, tinkering, adding, rarely subtracting. I stumbled upon a good idea in the trunk gun category by throwing my Ciener AR .22 conversion kit in the case with my AR shorty. I then stashed the Ciener 1911 .22 conversion kit in there too as there was some room.

I did it to make it easy to carry into the range for plinking and to always have in the car if I get the hankering. Further thought shows that with the addition of a brick of .22 I have quite the back up bug out kit. In the trunk of the car (the Tuareg is a different matter), as most of you know I have a 12 ga 870, a bunch of 12 ga loads, a 3 day emergency kit with sundries (water too) including a .357, and an AR-15 with two 30 round mags, one of Black Hills defensive ammo and a spare with AP, tracer and Incendiary. In the cabin I keep a .45 with a spare mag for social reasons. Now all together if I bail I have whatever gun is on me plus all the goodies in the trunk. In a lot of situations that .22 will come in handy, especially to feed the pot in a long term FUBAR.

I have now decided it is just not a fun as hell kit to have for cheap practice and joyous plinking, but an essential tool to add to every car with an AR in it. Heck, the kit is so small I might be able to fit in in one of those side saddle cheek pieces I see the tactical tommies with. Give me a good reason to buy one. The 25 round Black Dog magazines are awesome too. Might even run a carbine match with one sometime, be cheaper!

I have also started making smaller kits, one that is bat belt type. With tiny tools and gear, Miss G&T wants one now that I have described it to her. NAA .22 mag with mini leatherman, Swiss Tool, matches etc. 550 cord in a braided strand etc. We have two of all the stuff I want to put in it.

When I get it done I will post pics as well as the evolved kits. I have made some changes lately I want to share and get some discussion on.

Anyone want to share theirs?

Dang it, where do you find the incendiary ammo??? Been looking for years...

Do you have A1 or A2 stocks on any of the AR's? That storage space might be just right for holding the unit. Then you wouldn't mess up your check weld with one of those strap-on carriers.

Huh, I ought to try to cram it into one. I have collapsible stocks on them to fit in smaller places but I have two A2 stocks in the pile of parts.

Did some checking, if the bolt is removed, the carrier fits into the space but their isn't room for anything else. With just the bolt, I have room for the little spare parts kit too.

I think one of the options for the MIAD (sp?) grips with the interchangeable cores is one that holds a spare bolt.

Right. The bolt in the grip, and the carrier in the buttstock storage space.

Pt. 2 of the .22 question -

If the conversion unit is carried in the stock, would it be a good idea to have a side pouch on the stock holding a .22 magazine?

I would assume so. I carry a mag holder on the buttstock with a spare mag full of AP, IN and TR so it should be easy to sub, or have a mag pouch full of Black Dog and P-Mags to sling over the shoulder.
