Just got home from the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in San Diego. This is the first time I've been in two years or so. The place was MOBBED! The line to enter was over 200 yds long (not cars, but after folks had parked) at 10 o'clock, an hour after the gates opened. There was a feeding frenzy at the tables of the largest ammo dealer, with people waiting 5 and 6 deep to be served. Gee, I wonder what all of the excitement was about...?

El Paso Gun Show is today and tomorrow. I went early this morning since I had other committments in the afternoon. Lucky I went at opening time. I found Remington No. 6 1/2 Small Rifle Primers for sale! Down side was the guy was asking $75 a 1000; I broke down and bought 4 boxes since I needed them. Also got a nylon holster for my Automag/S&W Model 57 in case I decide on one of them as the open carry piece for August 8. Also got a new extractor for the Springfield 1911. Three things I noticed about this show:
1. Doesn't seem as hectic as it has in the past, lot of handling but not much buying.
2. Prices are still sky high. Cheapest AR I found was a bare bones, m-4gery for $690. Saw three sporterized Krags, selling for $675 each. Admittedly, two of them belonged to a guy who had picked them up and was going to get parts to restore them. The third one the guy was just greedy. He could have gotten more if it was in original configuration. Usual bunch who love their guns so much they price them at 2 to 3 times the value.
3. I'm sick and frigging tired of going to gun shows and seeing coin dealers, jewelers, and others with NO connection to the gun industry. What would happen if WE set up a table full of firearms for sale at a Coin Show?

Prices for everything, even the hot dogs, were high at the San Diego gunshow. Admission was up from $8 the last time I went to $12. Ammo prices were very high. Oh, and the line for the tables selling reloader supplies was running 100 or so people long, even three hours after the gate opened.

It's STILL insane. People are preparing, but the biggest increase we've seen at the range has been women doing a lot of shooting.

I've been trying to track the VA shows over at arf hometown forums. Seems like it's calming down here a bit, but California is going to hyper drive.
What's going on there? A coworker of mine said his sister who teaches is being paid in IOU's and the bank actually takes them.
Is the state about to explode?

Yup.
And I wish they would just cut the drama and declare bankruptcy so we could get to the rebuilding part.
The only bright part is that the economy is so bad that the illegal aliens are going home.
