ok, i know that there are plenty of darts that are used on animals that are fairly fast acting, but nothing that is instant... ive seen plenty of news articles where they had to hit an escaped zoo animal multiple times to drop em...
so, what about human animals?
ive seen several tv shows and movies where they are used to take out guards in places where they dont want to kill the person... I seriously doubt that even the most potent chemicals would be capable of incapacitation within a quick enough time to prevent the person from firing back...
So what says the crowd, Hollywood fiction or not?

Absolutely, Hollywood, bullshit, completely and totally bogus!

There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!

The unseen side of the animal tranquilizing stuff is that you run a decent risk of killing the animal, if you're doing it in a hurry -- I would think you would w. a person as well -- probably more so, given how much people vary in size.

Hollywood. With humans you're dealing with a huge list of variables: Size, metabolism, drug resistance, other chemicals already in their system, etc. Any dose likely to stop someone quickly also stands a good chance of killing them outright.

Holywired BS.
10-20 seconds. You could get it down to 5-8 seconds by upping the dosage, but also significantly increasing the risk of them never waking up.
Think about it, it takes 20-30 seconds for the anesthesiologist to put you out at the hospital, and they know your body weight in advance.

Yup, BS.
25-30 years ago, here in San Diego, we had an albino deer wandering around in Mission Valley undeveloped land. As development increased the tree-huggers decided they were going to re-locate the poor, unique critter. They got the experts from the "World-Famous San Diego Zoo" to come out and administer the knock-out dart. The deer died on the spot.
Oh, well.

If time, chance and random process can produce a platypus why not an ammo tree?

Pure Hollywood BS, just like how quiet a semi automatic pistol becomes with a 1 inch silencer on it, and amnesia.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

There are, however, at least a couple of types of darts that can work very quickly on humans: my wife's former '66 Dodge Dart and my mom's former '68 Dodge Dart. To this day I still carry marks testifying to their effectiveness on humans.
