I'm ready, and have $700 as my budget. Recommendations?

You might as well plan of getting a bigger one than you think you'll need, because of Murphy's Law of Acquisitions: Stuff expands to fill the available space. If you get a 12-gun safe, in a couple of years you'll find yourself trying to fit 14 guns in it, something will get knocked over/damaged/scratched, and you'll be pissed.

Get the biggest one you can reasonably fit in the allocated space. You'll be happier in the long run.

Capacity ratings for safes are usually exaggerated. A ten gun safe realistically holds five to six comfortably. Bolts and pistol grip stocks cab use up two spaces depending on the firearm and safe configuration.

All good advice so far.

The best part has been repeated: Buy a BIGGER safe than you think you will ever need. I speak from experience... the wrong kind. :)

I bought a 22 gun safe last year, planning for room to grow. That sucker's full already. There's a few slots still showing, but to get one out I already have to remove other guns.

although what everyone else said is true. Especially about the bigger part, here is the safe I bought as well as where I bought it.

Probably not the best safe in the world, but I like it and it fits two of the major criteria.
Its a safe
it fits your budget

You may want to watch those electronic locks though. Here's Michael Bane's Cannon safe electronic lock experience.

I was gonna say, KISS. I'd rather have a mechanical combination lock.

mine is the tumbler variety.

I saw the "hassle" one can have with the electronic ones.

Bad day doesn't even begin to cover it.
