INFO: Blackhawk holster for S&W Sigma 9VE

Post by Dub_James »

Got word back today from Blackhawk regarding the correct holster for the S&W Sigma 9VE. According to them, the correct one is 410525BK.

Funny thing is, I tried out the 410513BK at the local GM, and it also fits the Sigma 9VE. It is in fact the one I ordered, as it was the only one with which I could confirm a fit.

So there you go. Looks like either one will work.

Can you give me a review of that? I have a Fobus, and like it, but the price is right on the Blackhawk.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Will do once it arrives. The Fobus is ok, but I've always wanted an active retention holster, and on occasion I've found with the Fobus that the gun got pushed up slightly from getting in and out of a vehicle. Seems to happen more as time goes on, and tightening the retention screw hasn't helped. I'd prefer not to have to worry about that!

It arrived today. First impressions are good. Came with the paddle attachment, but I tried it out on the belt loops first, even though I haven't adjusted them to the belt width yet.

Checked the fit with the pistol unloaded first, of course. Wanted to make sure it wasn't snagging or pulling the trigger when holstering. Saw no reason that it would, but it's best to be sure.

Got in some brief carry this evening. Felt solid enough (need a decent gun belt!), especially when cantering or jogging. I was always leaning an elbow on the Fobus when I jogged, just in case. I feel a lot more confident with this holster. Doesn't flap as much as the Fobus does at speed. Seems more comfortable when walking, bending down etc. About the same comfort when driving, except the muzzle doesn't mush into the raise padded edge of the seat when getting in. Even if it did, the retention mechanism would prevent holster creep as well as the holster being longer than the muzzle, anyways :D

Later on I adjusted the tension screw a bit. Didn't need to really, but wanted to add that little bit of extra resistance. There's a slight amount of front to back play, and I might eventually stick a thin rubber pad at the bottom of the trigger guard molding, but it's no big deal.

So overall so far I'm happy. I'll update as I go. Will install the paddle attachment once I get a chance.

Any other Blackhawk users here?

Don't think I mentioned before, but I also have a 9VE.

One fine point, a couple of the "name" brand instructors refuse to let the Blackhawk Serpa holsters in their classes because of AD's when the pre-loaded trigger finger gets jammed into the trigger guard during the draw.

My experience with them is limited, but I'm still not happy with the kydex holsters in general.
Too much slop and shift for my tastes but I was brought up with steel guns and hand boned leather holsters.

I'd heard that online, but funnily enough, the position of the lever places my trigger finger higher up on the frame than I normally would have it when drawing, so it would seem to be more safe for me. I wonder perhaps if this type of holster is simply more prone to bad technique?

Leather's nice, but another 40-90 bucks on top of the cost of kydex. Nice, but not nice enough...yet :)
