AN-PEQ-2 Infrared Illuminator

From wiki-
The AN/PEQ-2 has two infrared laser emitters—one narrow beam used for aiming the rifle, and one wide beam used for illuminating targets, like a flashlight. The beams can only be seen through night vision goggles. Each beam can be zeroed independently, and the illuminator's radius is adjustable. The two lasers are tied into one 6-mode switch, which has the following modes:

Super-killer-ninja dude still has the blue safety block in there for training. I really don't give a damn if I blind a terrorist while I'm trying to shoot at him.
PEQ-15s are smaller and better than the -2s.

any possibility that the block is in place because it is daylight and he doesnt want to run down the battery?JAG2955 wrote:Super-killer-ninja dude still has the blue safety block in there for training. I really don't give a damn if I blind a terrorist while I'm trying to shoot at him.

It doesn't work that way. There is a selector switch in the middle, that will change the power of the laser, and whether or not the flood IR light is on as well. The blue block keeps you from putting it on the high setting during training. There is a soft circular button which is the on/off switch. Double press on, single press off.
Hell, not to rag on the poor guy, but his ejection port cover is open too.

Yup, it's a PEQ-2 and that's what I had on my A2. Sadly, I also had the blue safety block so I can't rag him on it either. It's the Supply Sergeant that has the tool to take it off.
Oh, and for the look on the face I would guess dust in the mouth. That or he ate some of the local food!

The downside to the peq 15 vs the peq 2 is the peq 15 has to be iirc top mounted to properly zero. I had the tiny little hex wrench to remove the blue block, but it walked away from my wall locker during training in Georgia. It came in the black case that held the peq. it's a useful too for night firing if it's correctly zeroed as you don"t have top worry too much about sight alignment and such. if you see your ir laser dot, that's where yer shooting.
