OK, so I cannot remember the proper name of them, but the belts w. suspenders that lots of the soldiers I've met use to hold various pouches, etc. (Guys use them at 3 gun matches often.)

I was thinking they would make a good dove/duck/quail belt - I carry a a sidearm while bird hunting.

It's called LBE, or LCE, or any number of things. The fore-runner of the ALICE system (All purpose, Light, Individual Carrying Equipment). It consisted of a common pistol belt, a pair of suspenders and a variety of equipment, to include canteens, ammo pouches, first aid kit, compass pouch, and knife holster. Very common during the Vietnam conflict, we also called it the "light to fight" because on contact, we'd drop our rucks and move toward the firing. The theory was, if we lived through the contact, we'd come back and get the rucks. If we didn't, then who gave a shit?

I'm sure it would. I bought one of the type I carried when I did my service and used it for when I was fishing on the move, for instance moving along a river or a shoreline. Two big front pockets helt bait and lures, and I had other items attached in other places (knife, canteen, peang, etc..)The rig I had also includes a small rucksack attached, just big enough to hold raingear, a thermos and a few extra items. Sometimes I even had a bucket attached for the fish I caught, and it didn't restrict my movements at all.

I think the thing was designed in the 40's, and it's not good looking, but it's probably the most practical rig for moving around I've ever had.

This item interested me in my continued desire to build my ultimate backpacking setup.

The company is gear toward fly fishing, but it looks like it could work for other tasks.

I have a similar belt. It works, as long as you don't put too much stuff and too much weight on it. The suspenders part really helps with stability, weight distribution, and more space to put stuff on.

One of the more popular current ones is the Brokos Belt. I've got one as a war belt setup. Works extremely well with a quality rigger's belt as the inner part.

I had a very similar belt with both drop-legs (Serpa thigh holster on one side, spare M4 and M9 mags on the other) attached when I deployed and it worked reasonably well. Not sure how well it'd go with any sort of a ruck or trail pack with a load-carrying belt on it though.
