Anyone have any experience with these thunder-rods? I want to pick one up to fill my pistol caliber carbine niche, and to give to the ex wife if she has man troubles. Furthermore, I want to know if I should get a .40 or a 9mm.

They're fun, accurate enough and will take commonly available magazines. The grip is a bit shorter than the pistols that use the same mags(a G17 compatible carbine has the grip length of a G19--a G19 compatible unit is close to a G26 grip). The few I've shot have run well.

Depending on the local, a 20ga shotgun may be better. I prefer the punch/capacity of a carbine, but it depends on a lot of factors.

Between the panic and Keltec's amazingly lackadaisical approach to actually manufacturing products.... (it would be nice if they would spend some time and effort to fill backorders rather than continually introducing new products that *also* never get produced in adequate quantity) I've wanted one for a while but never been able to find one for less than the price of a decent AR.

Once I can get a NIB example of one in .40 that takes Sig mags, for a price that starts with '4' (and is 3 digits), I'm there.

I have one. 9mm takes Glock mags. Great little carbine. ONly malfunction it has ever had was when I started loading my own 9mm, using 124 grain lead RN, I loaded them a bit light. It would not pull the next round from the mag, close bolt on empty chamber. Bumped up my powder .2 grain and solved the problem. Also can't use aluminum case Blazer ammo, it can rip the rims off on extraction.

Mine has the folding scope mount so the gun can still fold in half. I have an LER shotgun scope on it. It holds zero (surprisingly well) when folded and unfolded.
No pop can is safe on the berm at the range from this.

I can have a scoped carbine with 32 rd mags wrapped in a towel in a gym bag. Nobody would suspect.

Shooting into a bucket of wet phone books, my 9mm +P with Rainier 124-gr plated JHP from the Sub-2000 penetrated a good inch deeper than a 4" S&W K-frame 357 magnum with 125-grain JSP loaded to magnum level. It's not proof positive but it confirms to me that K-T isn't lying when they say the ballistics of 9mm from a carbine length barrel are right at 357 velocity.

As to 9mm vs 40- well that's the old argument, get which one you will keep in stock.

They make them in Glock, Beretta, S&W or Sig mag variants. With the exception of the Glock, you can change them to different mag configuration with a parts change. Glocks are orphans and can't be easily changed.

I no longer own any 9mm Glocks. Had mags left. I'd given serious thought to selling the Glock Sub2K and buying a Beretta variant and converting that to take Springfield XD magazines.

Keltec, however, seems to have mastered the art of keeping the market price at or above MSRP but the simple expedient of just not making enough. So actually finding a Keltec Sub-2000 at all is hard enough. So I'm keeping it.

I go to gun stores and ranges, a lot. To large and small outfits. So far I have seen in the flesh, exactly ONE SU-16 (used), maybe a half-dozen Sub-2000s of various types (including the one I bought), and that's it. Never actually seen a KSG, RFB or PMR-30.

I've seen more Title II guns in person than I've seen Keltec 'new' guns.

There was a KSG at the local FNRA in September. Sold for well over $2000 at auction.

I may have just found one, in .40 set up to take Sig mags. We'll see how it works out.
