I am in search of a retention holster for my M1911 for open carry. I have heard good things about the BLACKHAWK CQC SERPA. Anyone use one and care to share an opinion?
Suggestions of other brands/models?

Open carry holster?
If time, chance and random process can produce a platypus why not an ammo tree?

Re: Open carry holster?
The Fobus holsters are actually quite good, considering the low price. I have one for my 1911, and used it when we went to Louisiana after Katrina. It's not really a retention holster, but it kept my .45 very secure for two weeks of flogging about in swamps and wreckage.
But there ain't many troubles that a man caint fix, with seven hundred dollars and a thirty ought six."

blackhawks are not bad... but they have a release button that takes some getting used to... plus they dont make one for my gun so i have a Fobus... works like a charm

I like my Serpa. It does have the release button but after pushing it in there is no further resistance. The Fobus I used to have required a 'jerk' upward to release. I prefer the Serpa.

Check in Gear Talk & Tech for the following thread:
Custom Holster Makers - Leather, Nylon & Kydex and it’s in the W I K I
You can check their links and find, hopefully, what you’re looking for!
I really like Fobus and Front Line Kydex Holsters (personal thing—they’re Israeli) but Buy Brown and Survival Sheaths will custom make for you a holster of your own design…
Tauris, Bulman, Hoffman, Rafter S, Circle KB, Cochise, Hastings and Tucker all make great leather holsters but my favourite is (Bob) Mernickle Custom Leather Works…
*** I or friends/relatives have dealt most favourably with any of the links marked with *** and recommend them without hesitation for your attention!

There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!

No gun training school, and lots of departments won't allow the blackhawk due to an unfortunate tendency of people drawing them and then discharging them, since the release is near the trigger and your finger is right there pressing in....

I have a Serpa for my Sig P226 and like it. It'll be at Rumpshot's with me, so you can check it out if you want.Flintlock Tom wrote:I am in search of a retention holster for my M1911 for open carry. I have heard good things about the BLACKHAWK CQC SERPA. Anyone use one and care to share an opinion?

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

not a retention holster (i'd go with a Serpa) but the "Tribute" from Simply Ruggedis at top of my list for next 1911 and BHP holster.
Their Texas Pancake is spendy but really caught my eye for my 45 Vaquero. Probably would just go with their Sourdough pancake for that revolver. Put in on my Xmas wish list.

A "Sourdough", "pancake" holster? Made in Wasilla, Alaska?
