Just go over there, and then bring it back.
No duty then.

Unless I did my math really wrong, I came up with $332* - not sure about the import duty bit...
*Less 17.5% VAT, 1.61 USD/pound

I have had a tweed cap for many years - my first was a miserable tweed riding hat as a child... I have a few pipes as well - although not Irish nor English.

Tom,
There's a couple tailors among the African refugees at our church living not too far from you. I bet you could get one made for a fraction of this cost. They may be po' but they sport some really sharp looking suits come Sunday morning. A Continental sense of style -- residual benefits of colonialism I s'pose.

Try:
Kevin's
British Sporting
Orvis
Barbour
Jered whether you buy it there or not, you still have to declare the purchase unless you want to get a smuggling charge laid on you. You are only allowed to make so much in foreign purchases while travelling abroad...Go over and you'll pay duty and taxes.
That UK price included the 17.5% VAT--value added tax that when you get to the aeroport or train station when leaving the country you apply to have it refunded to you on A L L your purchases...They'll give it to you there in cash (if small) or by cheque...So allow an extra hour for check-in.

There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!
