Plug-in dehumidifiers - advice?

I've been thinking about a dehumidifier for my safe. I have a rechargeable "pillow" desiccant pack in there now. I can't use a plug-in one because there isn't a hole outlet there, and it's bolted to the floor so I really don't feel like messing with it. So, I'm looking at the kind you leave in there, but then plug in inside the house to recharge.

A) Are these dehumidifiers that you plug in only to recharge worthwhile? Do they work?

B) Can anyone recommend a simple hygrometer so I know what the humidity is in my safe?

Dessicants trump all. Dehumidifiers for safes are a waste of money. The "humidity" issue is just not enough of a deal for the money investment and extra hassle.

If you are not getting enough moisture out of the air, add another desiccant.
