The XJ is great, but a bit small on the interior and I don't think you would be comfortable in one.

I used to own one (a 2 door cherokee sport). It's a BIT small, but it's not that bad.

If you are okay with the size, then I would go with the XJ. They are everywhere, parts are everywhere. Major weakness is the model 35 rear axle, unless you are fortunate enough to get one with the factory tow package that included a Dana 44 axle. You can probably swap in the Ford 8.8 out of an exploder, but that will most likely require cutting/welding for new spring perches and shock mounts. If your XJ has ABS, it WILL have the wimpy 35 axle, and if you want to retain the ABS it is possible to have a D44 built with the ABS sensors that can use your stock rear brakes.

Here ya go. Last time I checked Banks even still has a turbo package for this series engine.

I've always been a fan of the K5. Parts for them are pretty much everywhere. I happen to like the wider body and added stability. The K5, obviously, handles very much like the pickup trucks I've driven since I first got behind the wheel, and are quite capable tow vehicles. And if you get an old enough gasser, they're stupid easy to work on. Even the newer ones weren't so overly computerized as trucks today are.

I vote for the K5 for many of the reasons above.

I had an automatic/diesel (with the obligatory two-tone paint job) when I was in my early 20's. It was stock except for a lift kit and larger tires. I beat the ever-loving crap out of that thing. It was like I couldn't kill it. Mud bogs, hill climbs, trailer towing, snow plowing in the winter... Change the oil every 3-4K and that was about it. Alas, as I became a po' college kid, I had to sell it.

Ahhhh Chris. A wife who digs guns and blinged out 4x4's. You are indeed a fortunate man.

I'm selling my 1992 Jeep XJ 4 door, 4.0L 4x4. Let me know if you're interested I'll send you some pics + vital stats.

2. Check Solid axles and 4 Low for the WIN. XJ's have lots of aftermarket parts.

6. Double Check. Heck Jeep just came out with a factory 4.7L stroker motor, that fits in ANY 4.0L vehicle.

9. It's in fair condition, no major problems.

10. It's a fun rig, just a bit small for what we wanted. Moved up to a Durango.
