Not to belabor the point but some interesting deals on used Callens on San Diego Craigslist.I've never seen used Callens so cheap. Trick is finding one with the right footprint for a short bed. Although Callen will mod old units to fit.
The economy really is driving some bargains out there. Makes me wish I was still driving a truck -- maybe have to do something about that. Mount an aux A/C on the shell and a 4kw genset on the rear bumper -- hmm....
Nice thing about a Callen is you can feel pretty good about rolling with the kids in back . It's effectively a rollcage. This rollover picis worth a thousand words.

That seems to be where it thrives.
Edit to add: Are you aware of any corrosion problems between the steel frame of the Callen camper units and what I presume to be the aluminum skin? And what sort of fasteners do they use to attach the skin?

SH, it is an urban myth that opening the tailgate gets you better millage. Both real world and Wind Tunnel tests show that with the gate up you get better mileage. A "pillow" of air is formed by the turbulence causing further air to "slip" over it. This separated stagnant air acts to improve mileage, the gate being down decreases it. I can give you a detailed technical explanation if you desire, but this is a quickie.

I feel strange resurrecting an old thread like this, but does anyone here know of caps that will work with a toolbox in place? It would be going onto a 2002 Ford Ranger with a Duramax compact pickup box.

to the best of my knowledge, no. That is why I ended up with a "redneck" tonneau on mine.
