thigh holsters?

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Why not attach the paddle holster to your safety harness once it's on? I don't know if your harness is thin enough to allow the paddle to slip behind it and your pants together, but you might be able to get it to work with just the harness. I know there are some non-padded climbing harnesses where it would be no problem attaching a paddle harness to it (just don't install the gear loops around the waistband).

I would do that, BUT the designer of said harness has all kinds of stuff meeting where the holster needs to go. there are three " straps that all meet at that juncture and none of them line up. So a lot of real estate is lost.

I suppose I could just get a better harness, but the thigh rig would fix the problems. I am considering the chest rigs, but I already have a chest rig for my binoculars...

There is a solution, just gotta figure it out. The good news is, hunting season is a long time away. At least deer season.

Don't listen to the naysayers. It's not always the best way to carry, but if it sucks so bad, why does Ricky Recon and all his friends still use one? Just make sure to mount it as high as possible on your leg. It's one of the best ways to carry if you're wearing a backpack and can't put it on your chest. Can you find a thigh platform that your Serpa can attach to? Like so? Link

Another great option would be what they call a tanker holster. Great for sitting down. Most (possibly almost all) of the "universal" nylon holsters suck. I have one from Ares Armor that is pretty good for Glocks, but it doesn't fit anything with an exposed hammer very well. The creme de la creme of thigh holsters is likely Safariland-lots of options and high quality, but it comes at a high price.

Almost NONE of this bunch could make it look THAT sexy.

1. Thigh holsters are awesome if you plan on being sedentary
2. They break even if you are moderately active
3. They suck donkeyballs if you ever plan on moving at any considerable rate of hustle

And one of the few who could, already has her own in-house holster maker.

Thanks Yogi,

On the Serpa thigh platform, I will have to look into that. I think I have to buy the CQC adaptor to make it work, but not sure. It might well be the answer.

Maybe give G-Code a call - they are rather creative, and I like how their holsters retain - though I prefer Safariland's ALS, simply because I don't care for hoods.
