Reminds me of my black lab Jake. One dog, + 100 tennis balls for 25 bucks off e-bay = happiness!

OK that was cool!McClarkus wrote:Yup!Cybrludite wrote:Sort of like this guy?McClarkus wrote:Reminds me of my black lab Jake. One dog, + 100 tennis balls for 25 bucks off e-bay = happiness!

But a quick tangential rant. I started this business because I broke my Classic, one of the scales came off. Now, those things are press fit, so if it comes off it's probably too damaged to go back on and stay on. So to get it to stay back on the second time, you need adhesives. I tried superglue, and after only a few hours the 'bad' scale popped off again.
Now this is the annoying part- fixing the knife is more expensive than buying a new one. And fixing it only involves pressing on ONE fairly tiny plastic part. Now Victorinox has a lovely warranty program, but using that would involve a $5 s&h charge. I could just buy a new scale (people sell them) and pop it on myself, but the best price I've found for a new set of scales is $8, with free shipping. Some places 'charge less', but when you factor in shipping they charge more.
For $8 (plus ~$4 shipping) I could get *4* lightly used Classics on ebay. You occasionally see retail bundles where they sell a larger knife with a companion Classic, such that the Classic winds up being almost free (when comparing the price of the bundle to the price of the larger knife alone).
I suppose I could try attaching the broken scale with epoxy, but I'd have to buy epoxy. Which would also wind up costing more than just replacing the whole damn knife.

The moral of the story is that you have correctly deduced that SAKs are not possessions, but rather expendable items, like rubber car parts, and should be stocked as such.
Would that Victorinox would blister them in six packs, and save us all the trouble.

It started with one...Weetabix wrote:Actually, though, now you mention it... I recently did that with fountain pens. I think I have about 12 now. I think at least 9 of them even work.
At least it did for me. Now, I've got two.

Funny you should say that. Just by coincidence I bought 6 more over the weekend. 4 of them are likely to be permanent loaners/gifts, but that adds 2 more to my spares stockpile.
