Bows, Crossbows, and Arrows; WHAT PROGRESS!!

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

A little slow, but eventually you confirmed you're still breathing. ;)

It took me a while to notice the bow.

Mike, That shop is indeed the best. Really knows his stuff and makes it look easy.

I actually prefer bow hunting over rifle hunting. Its one thing to shoot a game 100-whatever yards you're comfortable shooting at but to get a white tail 20 yards or less and being undetected is a whole different beast. The adrenaline rush is unmatched. As to bears claim of 345fps is unrealistic. A hunting set up will not reach 345fps.

To get that speed you have to use arrows that are unrealistically light, which means that penetration is seriously reduced, and feathers or vanes that are too small to stabilize a decent broadhead. If you use arrows that weigh 6-8 grains per pound of draw weight, you won't get that kind of speed. The upside to heavier arrows means that more of the bow's energy is absorbed by the arrow, making it much quieter with the heavier arrows.

What they typically do is shoot unfletched arrows with the draw weight and length maxed out to get their speeds so high. Just a marketing gimmick. With the bows that are out on the market the competition is fierce. I prefer Hoyt. They're fast, shoot flat and smooth drawing.
