You could always try the Chinese version of the Sordin muffs from DealExtreme. If CC's theory of Chinese manufacturing overruns is correct, they may even be the real thing at a bargain price.

I wear Pro Ears Ultras, passive protection, $39.95, 33 decibels reduction. I double up with ear plugs as well when shooting indoors. I like them very much, but as mentioned above I think, they're not the smallest.

I did have some of the Howard Leights, found them to be not sturdy. The attachment points for the band to the muff were little plastic buttons, some of them sheared off.

I have two pairs of those - I bought them at Blue Ridge Arsenal in Virginia some years ago during my first trip to the US. They are excellent - really quiet and comfortable, but unfortunately too bulky for use with long guns.

So did I, I'll report back as well. I have peltors and recommend them highly after trying all the other lower to mid end ones. That and I double up with plugs to save my hearing, or what's left of it...

I got some weird things w. a plug and a microphone - I haven't tried mine yet - it also took months to get them. Can't remember where I set them, honestly...
