Shoot me first vests, a discovery!

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Not long ago I saw a guy with a rifle set across the handlebars of his BICYCLE. (Got to love AZ). I rolled down the window and we had a nice conversation about mil-surps until the light turned green.

A friend of mne cycles to our local municipal range every Monday night with his pistols, and sometimes a rifle, on his back. The hoplophobe justice ministry put rules for the transport of guns in motor-cars in the legislation, but they didn't say anything about (motor)bikes, pedestrians, horses or public transport. :twisted:

You know, there's a pretty cool breed called the "Belgian Coach Horse".... Combine some of those, w. the lack of restrictions on old machine guns, and you'd have quite a means of traveling through Brussels...

I don't think many people would react here either, depending on circumstances. I've been over at a friends house sitting out on the porch servicing handguns, and not one of the neighbors reacted, not even when a few of them stepped up to the porch to discuss local gossip. Though that was in a small village where a hunter lives in every other house.

I can't imagine many people reacting to someone carrying a few rifles to the hunting store either, but this is an area where "moose hunting season" is still considered a holiday of sorts. It would probably be a very different reaction in other areas of the country.

Something about a guy on a bicycle just doesn't scream danger.

Perhaps not, but most cops would consider it pretty unusual, enough so that they'd want to make sure the gun wasn't stolen - of course, much also depends on what part of town and level of gun ownership in the area he's riding through. The po-po would probably want to make sure it wasn't an opportunity theft from someone's open garage, especially since carrying it across the handlebars is much more low-key than slung across the rider's back.

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Technically in NJ that would be a crime too wouldnt it? Since you would be concealing a gun without a permit...

Yes it's bad here, but you don't have to be retarded.

You never know. Lots of this is retarded. My buddy got arrested not for having a concealed .44 special in his truck but for having a rusty Mauser bayonet (longer than 5 inches here in Texas) in a backpack in the back seat! I had just given it to him to go with the Mauser I have him for Christmas. They prosecuted and wanted him to plea to a weapons (which he was gong to) until I told him two things;

1. I would pay for a lawyer

2. No jury in the world would convict him when aforementioned lawyer placed the gun and old bayo on the table as exhibit 1 and 2 and point out the bayo is what he is being harassed over.

After he told the DA he was going all the way to court they folded but he is a terrible negotiator (which is why he should have taken the lawyer anyway) He ended up pleading (against my advice) to "obstructing a roadway" which is the vehicular equivalent to jaywalking.

Like he said, it's nuts here, but not THAT nuts. Basically, guns have to be out of public view, but can't be actually on your person.
