Electronic Earmuffs

My dad had a set of custom molded earplugs that were non electronic, and he loved them. They had some kind of a valve inside that would cut off anything above a certain threshold. No amplification, of course, but he could still hear normal conversation just fine. I should probably look into getting something like that made for work, since regular muffs don't always work well with cold weather gear, and I've only found one brand of disposable ear plug I can use, the others always fall out.

The Radian brand I picked up from Brownells work fine for me on the range, and the price was right.

That's what I have, I got a set for the range and a set for hunting from an audiologist.

They work great outside, but, for me, very poorly indoors. (Not enough suppression) When I shoot at an indoor range I double up with foam plugs.

The custom molded plugs with a valve sound interesting, do you have a brand name?

These Peltor plugs have a valve, I use them at IDPA, they work very well. The Army issues them as well IIRC.

Actually, the ones that work for me come in a little cardboard container.

Another vote for Peltors. Great not only for normal range work but during things like CMP type competitions. Easier to hear the range commands.

However, have not tried any others since a second hand no-name pair 20 years ago that I quit using in favor of normal muffs and earplugs
