Sneakybag? Eh, maybe for my SHTF gear. Not for this.
Wiz, we're wearing the Marine MTV (modular tactical vest), which I believe is similar to yours, though we don't have the shoulder protectors that I've seen on you soldiers. I don't know if you're wearing them, I can't imagine that they're comfortable.
I ordered a thigh platform for $20, along with a Pelican laptop case from Botach, so I'll give this a shot and see how it goes, if it doesn't work, it'll just go with all of my other junk in the garage.
Mike, we're carrying bayos all the time. Think of it as a negotiation tool. Iraqis are very scared of pistols and large knives. (The USMC bayonet is SWEET!!!!)
Addendum to the deployment: We'll be rolling in Cougar MRAPs, which I can't wait to drive. I got my HMMWV license last week, which was cool enough, but the MRAP puts them to shame.

Jag, let me know how that thigh rig works out from Botach. I'm interested in seeing if it's a POS when it gets *real* use, or if it's good for the big time.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

JAG just looking at this picture it looks like you have Velcro over most of your vest. almost every inch of our vest is MOLLE loops on the outside. oh and yeah we wear shoulder DAPS because "you will wish you had them when you get shrapnel in your arm!!!" or so they tell us, they arent comfortable but after a while you get use to them and they become tolerable. oh and even the DAPS have MOLLE loops.
Keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

There's actually just a small strip of velcro close to the throat where you can attach name tags and attach your throat protector when not in use. It only looks that way since there's MOLLE attachments offset a half space between the regular MOLLE attachments. Where are you right now? I'll be all over the western half and some of the eastern starting in January. You still going to be there?

I've thought about getting one, but it won't go on my M1 Garand nor my M1A - even so, I've contemplated picking one up for when I get my AR (eventually).JAG2955 wrote:Yeah, that one.

Those deltoid protectors weren't mandatory when I was over there, they were just about to start issueing them when we left. Still, we didn't use the extra stuff mostly because they got in the way(and we were in convoys only rarely). The Wizard wrote:JAG just looking at this picture it looks like you have Velcro over most of your vest. almost every inch of our vest is MOLLE loops on the outside. oh and yeah we wear shoulder DAPS because "you will wish you had them when you get shrapnel in your arm!!!" or so they tell us, they arent comfortable but after a while you get use to them and they become tolerable. oh and even the DAPS have MOLLE loops.
Well, being that I now have my Iraq pictures easily available, here's how I had my setup:

YMMV, but as I said, I was the driver for my squad so I was in and out of HMMWVs and 5-tons quite a bit though mostly riding in the back of an M2/3 Bradley(Benchseats rock!) Just an Idea. I think if you took off one of the grenade pouches(that was the one that held my camera) you could easily fit a canted M9 holster on the left side.
