There's portable radio, and then there's portable radio...

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Okay, which of you ham radio enthusiasts owns this?

I saw this linked on Instapundit while surfing and immediately thought "the forum must know about this."

It reminds me of one of my old supervisors in the Air Force. He had an old AMC Eagle converted into a mobile ham radio post with scanner capabilities for the regular brick radios that everyone carried around. We used it to eavesdrop on the Phase II planners so we'd be ready for any Alarm Red calls and infiltration calls during the exercises.
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

I think I know that guy....
Seriously I do know a guy that would be that far over the top. Though I doubt that he has the resources to actually accomplish it.

I live in Dayton, home of Hamvention, so I see similar stuff every year. Many are demo vehicles to show ideas for mounting equipment and antennas.

Others (given discussions about this particular one on several Ham reflectors) are either folks not too grounded in practicality, or just like to be over the top to get a reaction from people.

I find them very useful. I can point them out to my wife as say "see, it could be much worse!"
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Damn. I think if you actually turned them all on at once, the engine would die and the battery would drain out in a few seconds. :D
