elastic for adding shotgun shell loops to mag pouches

elastic for adding shotgun shell loops to mag pouches

Post by gandalf23 »

I want to sew little elastic hoops onto some of my mag pouches like this:

So that I can use them to also carry shotgun shells at the three gun match, like this:

However, before I do that I will need to find some good elastic that will not wear out or stretch out or tear easily. Does anyone know what kind of elastic is used by Endom or Special Operations Equipment or Blackhawk or Maxpedition or any of the other quality gear manufacturers?

And once the type or kind of elastic is known, where do I find it?

I assume it is something "better" than cheapass elastic you might find at the local sewing store, right?

Thanks!

ETA:
Found out the Mil Spec for elastic webbing is MIL-W-5664, so now half the problem is solved. Just need to find someone who'll sell it in less than roll sized quantities.

Found some at http://www.paragear.com. They have webbing and elastic, and sell by the yard. Both were found in the Raw Materials section. There is a $25 minimum order, which was not that hard to do once I browsed around the site a bit.

Edited to add: They also have milspec thread, which I didn't even think about when I placed my (first) order. "XTN112 SIZE B NYLON THREAD - OLIVE GREEN" for $2.50 a roll is the stuff I ordered. I could not tell from teh description how big a roll it would be. Turns out to be kinda huge. I was thinking a small spool like what mice use as tables in cartoons, but it was much much larger than that, it's about six inches high and four inches in diameter at the base. Lots and lots of thread.
