Fear and Greed Have Sales of Guns and Ammo Shooting Up

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Fear and Greed Have Sales of Guns and Ammo Shooting Up

Purchases of guns and ammunition are surging across the country. Nearly four million background checks -- a key measure of sales because they are required at the purchase of a gun from a federally licensed seller -- were performed in the first three months of 2009. That is a 27% increase over the same period a year earlier, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

No one knows exactly what is behind the gun-buying craze. Some buyers say they are stocking up for themselves in anticipation of new gun-control laws, while others say they're worried about deteriorating public safety as the economy worsens.

"a 28-year-old flooring contractor in Auxvasse, Mo., bought parts to build 15 AK-47 rifles. He says he spent about $6,000 but figures he can eventually sell the 15 weapons for at least twice as much. "Military weapons have always gone up in value and those are the only guns I invest in," he said."

He'd better go slow on that plan.....not real smart to yak about building AK's for profit unless he's got an FFL.
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.

Well I think it depends on what they mean as parts. If he bought a bunch of already numbered receivers then he should be fine...I think. However if hes building from flats he may find himself in club fed.

Since it is pretty clear he is building only to sell, whether or not he is using 100% receivers will only determine whether he is charged with manufacturing or just dealing without a license. And maybe not even then, considering ATFU's convoluted definition of what "manufacturing" consists of. Even if you are only building for yourself, I've never gotten a straight answer as to how many you can build and stay legal, since you enter a strange world of excise taxes, etc. I think there IS a straight answer to be had, but there are a lot of differing opinions, and I think that was caused by changes in the regs over the years, and not everybody getting clued in.

Ok. I though there might be something like that but I was not sure. Gonna be kinda hard to enforce, or at least would have been if he kept his trap shut. I have seen tables at guns shows with 10+ guns for sale via private purchase.

You shouldn't talk about our President and our Speaker of the House like that. If you can't respect the person, respect the office.[/irony][/sarcasm].
;)
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .
