Inside View of Carl Zeiss - home of the famous optics maker

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Inside View of Carl Zeiss - home of the famous optics maker

Post by 308Mike »

I was checking out the online version of the American Rifleman magazine and came across this article which other's might like to read and go through the 22 photos online:
Inside View of Carl Zeiss

Scenes from the German home of the famous optics maker.

By John Zent

The small boy in me will forever think adventure when he sees the name "Zeiss." That was the name on the field glasses brought home by my uncle from his service in the Berlin Airlift. They were also the same glasses that he slung 'round my neck during groundhog hunts on the family farm. Last fall my adventures took me to mountains and prairies far from home, yet once again I was using Zeiss binoculars, and the wonder they brought into focus proved enticing as ever.

Over the years, I've learned there is a lot to making great binoculars. Optical theories must be translated into mathematical formulas, and that math guides engineers who design parts and create the tooling used to manufacture those parts.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad
