AR lower prices

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

I decided to do a bit more research on the accu-wedge and upper to lower fit. The guys at the various precision rifle forums I visited seemed split on the subject while over at the shoot people forums the concensus was that the fit really did not matter so long as the gap was within certain limits and that all an accu-wedge would do is introduce another way for your rifle to fail should the wedge get loose or fall apart.

The only actual testing I could find on the subject was by John Feamster, in his book "Black Magic". This was a third hand report as I have not read the book myself but his testing apparently showed that loose fit has a fraction of a MOA effect on accuracy. I was also able to find a third hand report that Bill Wylde likes ARs with some rattle. It looks like more research on this subject is needed so I will be applying for a government science grant to further study the effects of accu-wedges and upper to lower fit.

No personal experience, but from what I've read they are good to go... and that's a smokin' price. PSA shipping is pretty spotty, though.

ordered it.

We'll see how long it takes to get here and how it works.

good to know.

I am slowly piecing together the parts listed above so we have two complete AR's. Her's will be the CQC gun. Her vision and such aren't really set up for distance precision. Mine will be the designated distance gun.

Or in other words, I strike for leaders and herd thinning, she does the mop up work.

She mentioned to me that she might be interested in taking a carbine class in the semi near future. SWEET, might just be motivating me to find a new job, but hey either way I am excited.

The PSA - Anderson lower showed up at my FFL today. That makes 13 days since I placed my order, so not bad at all.

They did do squirrely in that they sent me a tracking number that said it was for the lower, but was actually for the mag that I ordered at the same time. The mag came to the house. Good news for them, it wasn't the lower they said it was. Then the lower came to the FFL 3 days later.

Other than that, it all looks good. I am not going to test it out until I get all the other pieces to do the assembly. Just doesn't make sense to take apart the other lower just to reassemble into this lower.

I have been noticing that forged lowers in the $100 plus range are tending to be 7000 series Al. Don't know if that helps, but claimed increase in strength is in the 70% range. Don't know how true that is...
