Thanks for the links BE and JAG. I'll keep them in mind if I go for a whole new rig. I notice Andrew's show thumb breaks with cocked-n-locked 1911's.
I have some e-mails out and waiting to see what comes from them.
I have come up with a temporary field expedient that makes the holster useable. I loosened the retaining screw which gave me enough slack to twist the thumb break up under the "beaver-tail" under the hammer and snap close. It is very tight and holds the pistol securely when snapped.
Of course if it comes unsnapped there is not much retention of the pistol.
Re-holstering and re-snapping with the rig on is not going to be an easy option.
And I really liked the feature of a piece of leather between the hammer and firing pin. Not really a safety feature but comforting just the same.
So, just a temporary stop gap. Maybe I need the thumb break lengthened to easily wrap below the cocked hammer.
Or just say F-it and get a new rig. Buy a Glock 21 holster for this rig so that I don't totally waste my investment.
I'll keep y'all informed.

So, you're gonna' buy a handgun to fit your preferred holster?? LOL!!randy wrote:Or just say F-it and get a new rig. Buy a Glock 21 holster for this rig so that I don't totally waste my investment.

Actually I already have a Glock 21. I just prefer to carry one of my BHPs. This would just be a way to salvage something out of my investment, as my current shoulder rig for the Glock is a tanker type, not really CCW.308Mike wrote:So, you're gonna' buy a handgun to fit your preferred holster?? Now, if I wanted to be really silly, I could modify a BHP to fit the holster (i.e. install a C&S SFS).

Re: Disregard all previous praise of Galco holsters UPDATE
Resurrecting this necro thread.
A couple of months ago I finally got around to sending the holster (and a cocked and locked BHP Blue Gun to use as a reference) to Evyl Robot.
Got it back the other day. He drilled out and relocated the snap and the Belgian Browning now fits nice and tight and snug.
Rig went out with CINCHOUSE and Darlin Daughter for their first half of our summer vacation (so it's available when I fly down to meet them in Phoenix in couple of weeks without the hassling of checking a firearm), so not much field testing yet, but no problems during a shopping trip and running errands Saturday.
Very nicely done. Took me a good light and some looking to see where the snap had been moved.
ER has emphasized that he doesn't really do repair work, but being a customer, he was willing to do this for me. I really appreciate it and would like to thank him in public.

You're looking at it in entirely the wrong way. Checking a firearm isn't a hassle, it is an opportunity to keep random TSA monkeys from rifling through your belongings. You are required to transport it in a locking hard case, and only you can have the key to the case. Most people use a dedicated gun case either by itself or stuffed into their unlocked bag (doh), but they're doing it wrong.randy wrote:(so it's available when I fly down to meet them in Phoenix in couple of weeks without the hassling of checking a firearm)
There's nothing that says you have to use a "gun" case when checking your firearm, there's nothing that says what size it can be, what it can look like, or that you can't put other things in it besides your firearm. Like, say, the rest of your baggage. This is what I use, sans foam. It holds quite a lot of stuff.

Pelican cases FTW. I have a pair of 1650s that are my travel luggage, and a 1510 carry-on sized bag as well. Declaring a firearm is one of the best ways I've found of making sure the luggage arrives on the same flight I do.
And thanks for the necro-resurrection. Looking at the holster sites... Stingray is quite awesome btw.

Actually, the point is to avoid checking any luggage. Just one carry on with some essentials that I didn't send forward (tablet, prescription, cell phones and chargers, etc).Netpackrat wrote:You're looking at it in entirely the wrong way. I have checked firearms before, and used the gun case inside luggage method. I guess I should have said avoiding the hassle of checked luggage. Get off the plane, go straight to the exit, meet family, and go. No bag drags or missed luggage if the connections get tight,,etc.
