My maglite is dead

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

What he describes is a battery issue. Nothing to do with the brand of flashlight. I've seen the same thing in a variety of equipment.
Precision is in Florida. Freezing isn't an issue. But heat is.

Heat will kill batteries. I used to replace the batteries in my 4 cell Maglight in April, July, Oct, then April. Lithium batteries take heat much better than regular alkaline batteries. I have gotten away from Maglights and gone to lights run on 2 Cr123 batteries in my vehicles, generally Chinese sourced.

Yup,
the inside of my truck sees 140-160 degrees much more frequently then it sees 40 degrees.

I should probably just ditch the batteries every 6 months. It seems like a waste, but then again so is $26 on flashlights. Maybe go to low discharge rechargeables then I'll HAVE to play with them every few months.

I have concerns with CR123 batteries and preparedness / availability in SHTF but then again C-cell are not ubiquitous sooooo.

Obviously still thinking on this one. Right now the truck has a cheap $1 flashlight while I dicker and dither. :(

Romisen has the RC-K4 light which can use 2 Cr123s, a single 3.7v 18650 Li-ion rechargeable, or 3 AAAs. For under $20.

I'm with ya. I have a bunch of perfectly fine CR123 LED lights. But I'm transitioning to AA, AAA or D lights.
