Ford 6.0 Diesel

I may be a little late to the party here but I drive an 04' 6.0L F350. It has 165,000 trouble free miles on it, with the exception of a quirky gas gauge. 3 of us at the shop have high mileage 6 liter Fords and all have been within the normal maintenance $$'s. It seems that most of the folks with serious problems have made engine modifications of some sort; i.e. free flow air filters, bigger exhaust, engine chip, et. al. I know that analogy is not data but just wanted to toss in my $0.02.

LOL. They very well may be the Diesel version of the "Fiero" for all I know. Just passing on my personal experience. I've read the online forum posts of some real horror stories. They're probably like so many other mass produced Rube Goldberg devices in that you might get a gem, or you might get a stinker. Ford has been known to put out more stinkers than gems over the years. I probably just got lucky. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to knock on some wood and buy one of those ripoff car extended warranties

It depends on the use. The biggest problems with the 6.0 were the head bolts. If it is a daily driver occasionally towing a jet-ski or other light trailer, they aren't bad. Put a load to them however, and the bolts stretch and gaskets start flying. If you search boards related to diesels and towing, everyone says to replace the head bolts. They do this for a reason. THEY SUCK!!

Yup, lotta people complaining about the injectors crapping out at less than 50K miles.
