The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

I have never heard the term "linear" used for anything other than an amplifier for the transmit portion of the process.
All the ones I have seen that worked were linear amps modified in such a manner. Pre-amps anyone I knew tried didn't work very well.
Unfortunately ham or other amateur radio systems are of no use as most truckers don't have them.

Over the road guys are more likely to have them, but yes in the minority.
