Swiss G11s And G96/11s, FAL Kits Too

Post by Darrell »

I ran across this over at arfdotcom--I.O. Inc. has some Swiss G11 and G96/11 rifles for sale, going for $374.95.

They also have some L1A1 FAL kits, Aussie Lithgows for $199.95, for you FAL fans.

I'm not sure I've ever heard of I.O. before, anybody dealt with them?

IIRC, IOINC.us is the former Inter-Ordnance company.
They had some legal issues and ended up re-forming.
Don't know if under the same management or ownership.
Gotta admit I failed to keep up with their plight, but they
used to have decent FAL parts kits.

So, how much would it cost to finish out one of those FAL kits? It looks like you just need a receiver and a barrel?

Depends on how mechanically inclined you are, I can "build" an FAL in an evening except for the finish.
A receiver will run $350-500 depending on brand and location.
Barrels will run, from @$75-200 depending on manufacture, and features. Flash hider threading, correct front sight "wings" etc.
You also need the 922 "compliance" parts. The receiver and barrel (if US made) count as 2, you only need 5 more to keep the flash hider. The Hammer, trigger and sear sets from Falcon and a gas piston from Tapco count for another 4. That makes 6 compliance parts and you could have your FAL "without" the muzzle threads/flash hider. There are "compliance" devices that can be pinned and welded to account for the threads.

Gun Parts Guy HTS and Piston US made GPG is the place to get your FAL parts.
Argentine Metric barrel new $125

And it's going to depend on whether or not you build on an Inch or Metric receiver, I'd recommend the metric, the mags are easier to get and parts are more available. And yes the incher's parts will work on a Metric receiver. You just can't mix some of the parts, like the sights etc.

Go over to FALFILES and join to see probably the most FAL info available anywhere. From construction to de-bug and everything in between, it's there.

I don't have a 1911 rifle, but i have a 1896/11 and a K-11 rifles. The ONLY drawback to the 96/11 is the round buttstock, and it seems less precise and is not as good for recoil as a flat buttplate. I believe the 96/11 is what was marketed as an "Alpine Sporter" and has the forestock and handguard cut back. Whatever the reason, it's a great rifle. and other than the densation of the round buttstock beating against your shoulder, you have little indication that you are shooting a century+ old rifle. It's also a good 3" longer than a Moison 91/30, and won't fit into my regular gun cabinant. Like most swiss rifles, the bore is immaculate. If that sounds like a gun you would enjoy, you might just take the opportunity when IO gets some more in.
