Beowulf

Post by g-man »

Finally test-fired the 10.5" .50 Beowulf pistol I built (really 12.7x42, but who's counting). Need a mag follower, as the standard metal mag I loaded up won't feed rounds correctly. Mostly just fired it to make sure it would eject properly. Next piece is a follower, followed (see what I did there...) by figuring out what spring/buffer combo will get it to run reliably.

Initial impressions:

Loud doesn't even begin to describe it. .50 BMG from an M2 in an MRAP turret is quieter than this thing on an indoor range. Outdoors it might not be as bad, but still... damn.

Recoil is more pronounced than anything else in the safe (other than possibly F-I-L's .300 Win Mag that I haven't shot yet). Hurts less than the Mosin, but that's because it's got a decent brace on it instead of the flat piece of steel the back of the Mosin is sporting. Definitely 'bruise your shoulder if you don't have it pulled in tight' levels of recoil.

Stupid fun. And now that I've found that someone sells factory loads with 600grn boolits... yay! 'Standard' 350grn at whatever south of 1700fps I lose due to barrel length is giggle-inducing. But definitely looking forward to some heavy, subsonic pills. And suppression

Did I mention loud? Seriously reconsidering my choice of brake.

Pictures! Or it didn't happen.

Seriously? .50 out of a 10.5 inch barrel? Pistol brace stock? I haven't heard of anything so ridiculous (and fun, apparently) since I first heard of the H&K 51 and 53 (7.62x51 out of an mp5 sized barrel)

So, we need some video of you shooting this. For scientific research, don'tcha know.
