Found a quick guide to Rifle Painting

Post by HTRN »

I used Kuiu Verde and Strichtarn stencils from freedom stencils with some krylon spray paint. The Kuiu Verde was one the rifle for a bit prior. You could get creative with cutting painters tape. That's what I did for the stock since I didn't have any digital shapes left.

Steps:

1: Base coat your darkest color (Dark Brown)

2: Apply digital stencils or use squares cut from painters tape to make your own. About 30% coverage.

3: Apply your next darkest color (Dark Green)

4: Repeat step two. Make sure to slightly overlap some of the previous shapes. About 30% more coverage.

5: Spray a lighter color (Green)

6: Apply mesh stencils or netting over the whole rifle.

7: Spray your lightest color (wheat tan)

8: Remove all stencils.

9: Place strichtarn or other pattern stencils over where you want the pattern you just painted visable. Everything not covered will be painted over.

10: Paint the same color as step 1.

11: Paint the same color as step 3 in strips over areas with the most shapes from step 1. That way it contrasts and isn't just a large area of solid color.

Make sure to let for 10-15 mins between coats. Also will be tacky for several days while it cures. Feel free to try a different color combo or patterns.

I highly recommend transfer tape. Leaving some negative space here and there. Someone others have done similar patterns based on mine that you may like more. Go thin on the paint layers. Mine has been pained over several times, so no matter what I did it will chip as seen.
HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat
