used .22 revolver

Post by Precision »

I am in the market for a used .22 revolver.

the purpose is for bringing new people into the gun fold. I have a Ruger MK III and a 10-22 that work admirably in that regard (starter guns with no recoil), but some people are intimidated by semi-autos. So I figured a nice relatively inexpensive and fairly accurate .22LR revolver would be a good addition to the collection. In addition, they are fun and on the occasions that I have two new shooters, they could each have a gun.

Suggestions on what brand and model would fit the bill would help, as well as suggestions on where I might find them. I have been looking at a few local pawn shops and my gun store, but have been told that they are few and far between (used).

thanks

I would say a ruger single six.

2 reasons for that pick.

1) They fit your example perfectly

2) It gives you a chance to show a new shooter what a single action is and how they work.

In order to teach the NRA basic pistol course, you have to have a single action revolver, a DA revolver and a semi auto. So why not follow that lead?

Yeah, a single six is probably your best bet. On the other hand, if you want a really, really nice 22RF revolver, I'd say go for a K22 "Masterpiece", just be sitting down when you hear the price.

One other choice, if you are going for economy ,is the Heratige Arms .22LR sinlge action. It runs about $150 new and it shoots very well. The frame is an alloy based material but you can't beat the price and it comes with two cylinders (.22LR & .22WMR). If you want some thing that your great grand kids will be able to shoot then pay the extra for the ruger, it is a very fine gun.

Don't get a used FIE E-15. Their trigger is complete crap.

I haven't fired any of them, but I believe that Charter Arms has some pretty good looking .22 revolvers.

A friend runs CCW classes, and he's in the market for a .22 DA revolver. Any recommendations on that.

He said he's heard that the Taurus 94's have crap triggers. Any truth to that?

That Heritage Arms .22 looks like a good idea -- at those prices I don't even feel bad buying new. $185 for the cheapest one and about $275 for the most expensive. Not bad. Has anyone owned one and have any report on quality of build, accuracy or trigger quality?

The Ruger single six looks good too, but it doesn't look like being used helps much on the price. It looks like I MIGHT save $75 compared to new, which in my opinion means go ahead and buy new.
